Equestrian Statue of Marcus Aurelius

Fine Art Photo Print

Description

The Equestrian Statue of Marcus Aurelius is an ancient bronze from the second century AD. The message is one of power and grandeur. His right arm is raised in the adlocutio position, a gesture often used in public address. The emperor is not armed nor armored, so the tone is not a martial one. This is one of two bronzes of pre-Christian Roman equestrian statues to survive to this day.
